The first full week of the high school season for Classes 3A-6A is upon us and that means it is time for some District series.
Several teams, however, have decided to delay the start of District play so there were not as many series to choose from. However, we think we have found the best matchups in each class for the week.
Let’s take a quick look at each one.

Class 6A
Norman Tigers vs Yukon Millers (6A-2)
Both of these teams come into the season with high aspirations after finishing short of the state tournament in 2025. They both return a lot of experience and depth both offensively and on the mound.
This District has several good teams vying for the top 2 spots. Three teams (Choctaw, Edmond North, and Piedmont) are coming off state tournament appearances in 2025. If either team can sweep the series, it would go a long way to achieving the goal of hosting a Regional.
Another interesting factor is the coaching matchup. Ryan Phillips of Yukon has 13 total years of head coaching experience while Norman’s Travis Remillard will be coaching his very first game as a head coach.
Class 5A
McAlester Buffaloes vs Shawnee Wolves (5A-4)
This is a matchup of two teams that look to be on the rise in Class 5A. Both the Buffaloes and the Wolves return plenty of experience from last year.
McAlester returns the majority of their innings pitched in 2025. Head coach, Justin Mullins says that the Buffs will have to grow up quick in spots and hope to be competing for a District championship at the end of the season.
Shawnee returns all of their letterman and players from 2025. Head coach, Jeff Shafer likes the development and improvement the squad has made over the offseason and is excited for this group.
This District looks to be wide open, so just like the 6A series, a sweep here could go a long way in hosting a Regional.
Class 4A
Locust Grove Pirates vs Verdigris Cardinals (4A-7)
Locust Grove comes into the season after going 17-14 in 2025 losing in the Regional round to Cushing. The Pirates made an 11 game improvement in wins in 2025 so it’ll be interesting to see how they do in 2026.
Verdigris on the other hand has been one of the best programs in the state over the last 25 years. The Cardinals have 17 state tournament appearances since 2001 winning 6 state championships. They haven’t been to the state tournament since 2022 which is the longest drought in that time.
Class 3A
Silo Rebels vs Hugo Buffaloes (3A-5)
This is the 3rd year for the Rebels to play in 3A and they don’t look at slowing down. The Rebels are coming off a Fall season where they made the semifinals in the 2A State Tournament. They could have one of the deepest pitching staffs in the Class, if not the state.
Hugo looks like a team on the rise. After winning 9 games in 2024, the Buffaloes won 15 in 2025. They return several players with varsity experience, but will need help in the pitching department. Head coach, Scott Schier believes that if they play the way they are capable of, Hugo has a chance to host a Regional this year. This opening series with Silo could be a good measuring stick to see where they are.
