The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Today’s team: Calumet Chieftains

Classification: B

2025 Spring Results: 18-10 (State Runner Up)

2025 Fall Results: 21-8 (State Champions)

Head Coach: Cody Thiessen

Head coaching experience: 9 years (5 at Calumet)

Top Returners

  • Kaleb Thiessen, SR (CF), 5’9″ 185, Texas Tech commit; Controls the outfield and starts the offense, 5 tool player
  • Kingston Arnold, SR (MIF/P), 5’11” 170, Redlands CC commit; Ace of the staff and big time leader. Will hit in the middle of the lineup
  • Brendon Voss, JR (MIF/P), 6’0″ 185; Big time power; Coming back from labrum surgery and looks to impact the middle of the order. High level ability
  • Wyatt Cox, JR (3B), 5’11” 180; Coming into his own at 3B. Has a great arm from the hot corner and has really improved at the plate to a true power threat for us
  • Hunter Mayfield, JR (OF), 5’9″ 155; Pure athlete that hits for a high average and is a threat to beat any ball he hits or bunts with his plus speed

Top Newcomers

  • Talon Arnold, SO (MIF/P), 6’0″ 165; High average hitter who sprays the ball all over the field. Plus defender as SS who is making big time strides on the mound as well. Mid 80s fastball will only climb with maturity
  • Konnor Thiessen, SO (UTL/P), 6’2″ 165; Plays all over the field and has great power in the middle of the lineup
  • Cale Stilley, SO (OF/P), 5’11” 170; Turning into one of the best young pitchers in the class. Low 80s fastball with great control and plus movement
  • Wade Reed, SO (C/P), 6’0″ 175; One of the best small catchers in the state. Handles the pitchers great and there is a no fly zone on the bases when he is behind the plate. Hits in the middle of the lineup and is getting more powerful each season

Overall Team Strengths

Experience, pitching, and defense

Overall Team Needs to Work On

Staying hungry to be the best we can be every day. Iron sharpens iron and that’s why we try to compete against the best we can throughout the season and push ourselves in practice every chance we get.

Outlook

We pride ourselves on being a team that just goes and does what the game asks of us. We play hard and try to get better every day. We are extremely grateful to have had the Fall season that we had (State Champs) and are looking to build on that success this Spring. I am fortunate to have students that know how to win and what it takes to win whether that’s on the court or baseball field.
