The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Today’s team: Oklahoma Christian Academy Eagles

Classification: 2A-2

2025 Spring Results: 21-7

2025 Fall Results: 18-9

Head Coach: Chance Stevens

Head coaching experience: 7 years (all at OCA)

Top Returners

  • Cruz Gillespie (SR) – (Coalgate – Track) – Senior SS who has locked down the position since Freshmen year. Best overall hitter with a ton of speed. Lead most of our offensive categories in the fall. Will look for him to eat up a lot more innings this season on the mound.
  • Isaac Smith (SR) – Senior Catcher who will hit in the middle of the order for us. Lead the team in RBI’s in the fall and will look to build on that for the spring.
  • Fonzy Borjas (JR) – Junior infielder who will spend most of his time at third base. 5 tool player with a lot of speed. He lead our team in OBP for the fall. He will hit at the top of the order and we hope to get him going on the mound this spring.
  • Jack Taylor (SR) – Senior pitcher who has lead our team on the mound the last 4 years. Had a 2.12 era through 49 IP in the fall. Can start or eat up innings coming out of the pen. Mr. Reliable for us.
  • Crew Davidson (SO) – Sophomore pitcher and UTL player for us. Crew finished the fall with a 5-3 record while tossing 42.1 IP and SO 42 as well. He will help lock down the rotation.
  • Matthias Clay (SR)- (East Central University) – Senior OF who brings a ton of experience to our OF as he has been patrolling CF since his Freshmen year. He hit .268 in the fall and will look to build on that this spring.
  • Alex Huber (SR) – Senior OF who hit .281 in the fall. He will look to build on that for the spring. He brings a strong arm to play in RF and will help lockdown a corner OF spot.
  • Wyatt Bruner (SR) – Senior INF who will spend most of his time at 2nd base. He will provide a veteran bat on the field and in the lineup. Will look for him to contribute this spring more on the mound as well.
  • Jack Garrett (SR) – Senior OF with a lot of tools. This could be his coming of age season and will look to contribute more on them mound as well.
  • Mason Marsh (JR) – Junior pitcher who sported a 1.2 ERA this fall. Will look for him to continue to eat up innings starting and coming out of the pen.

We will also look to get contributions from Senior first basemen Schuyler Goetzinger and James Phillips. Phillips should eat up innings for the staff this spring. Senior Cooper Whitehead should contribute in the outfield as well.

Top Newcomers

  • Connor Cramer (JR) – Junior pitcher who tossed 21.2 IP in the fall for us. He can wear many hats for the pitching staff getting two wins and two saves this fall. He will also help shore up catching duties as well.
  • Jeremy Phillips (SO) – Sophomore INF who has had a tremendous offseason. We look for him to contribute on the field and on the mound this spring.

We also have a young core of freshmen and sophomores who look to contribute as well this spring.

Overall Team Strengths

Senior heavy class with a ton of experience being a fall baseball school. Our younger players are way ahead of schedule to help contribute as well. Depth is defnitley a strength. Pitching will also be a strength with the staff posting a team ERA 2.6 this past fall.

Overall Team Needs to Work On

I think the biggest team need is just putting all phases of the game together and not beating ourselves. Consistency day in and day out could help us reach our team goals this spring and make a postseason push.

Outlook

We have a deep senior class and a lot of veteran players with a ton of experience. We hope to continue to build off a solid fall where we went 18-9. If we can be more consistent the sky is the limit. We have scheduled a tougher spring schedule to prepare us for postseason.
