The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Today’s team: Caddo Bruins

Classification: A-1

2025 Spring Results: 22-7 (State Quarterfinalist)

Head Coach: James Culbreath

Head coaching experience: 10 years (7 at Caddo)

Top Returners

  • Senior- Kale Brister – P/Utility IF: Kale is a top rotation pitcher for us, he is one of our best on the mound. Kale can also play multiple positions on the infield making him a valuable player for us!
  • Senior- Cale Wigington – C/IF: Cale is one of our top catchers, he does a great job with our pitching staff. Cale also is a middle of the order hitter for us and is expected to have a great spring not only as a catcher but also at the plate!
  • Junior- Jake McKay – P/SS: Jake is a returning top of the rotation pitcher as well as our short stop. Jake is not only a talented baseball player who puts up great numbers but he also does all the little things that don’t necessarily show up in the stats!
  • Sophomore- Bayler Black – C/IF: Bayler is also a returning catcher who logged several big games behind the plate as a freshman last year. Bayler is a gap to gap hitter from the left side who will only put up even better numbers as a sophomore!

  • This may be one of the most athletic teams we’ve had since I’ve been at Caddo.
  • The ability to throw quality pitches for strikes and defend at a high level.
  • The ability to hit gap to gap as well as play some small ball

Overall Team Needs to Work On

Outlook

Coming off a state tournament appearance last spring, we are ready to get back after it and compete for a championship. Although we did lose a few really good seniors we feel like we have some really good players coming back that are ready to take the next step!
