The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Chisholm Longhorns
Classification: 3A
2025 Spring Results: 24-13
Head Coach: Riley Thompson
Head coaching experience: 4 years (all as Chisholm)
Top Returners
- Tyson Arnold – 2026 Uncommitted – Has been the backup C the last two years and done a great job as the back end of the week guy. Excited for him to take over as the main C. Middle of the order bat with good pop. We will need him to be one of our leaders this year as well.
- Connor Nelson – 2026 – Most innings throw in 2025 out of our returning pitchers. Consistent strike thrower with 4 pitch mix. Looking for him to eat up a lot of innings this year.
- Slade Smith – 2027 Uncommitted- Slade is our returning leadoff hitter. Swings it from the left side and gives us some juice on the bases. Will play CF as well as catch some games for us this spring.
- Tayden Hamilton – 2027 Uncommitted – Long lanky 1st baseman that makes the whole infield better. Middle of the lineup that works gap to gap. Also one of the leaders for our squad.
- Brayson Barnes – 2028 – Played a lot of 2nd baseman for us last year as a freshman. He will move over to the left side of the infield this year. Threw some for us as well last year, hoping he will build off of that this spring. Great kid who shows toughness and leadership qualities.
Top Newcomers
- Todd Mueller – 2027 Uncommitted – Todd has a pure lefty swing with extra base hit capabilities. He will be one of our main arms and move around the INF.
- Jeter Shipley – 2028 – Savvy baseball player that will find ways to contribute in the INF and on the mound. Great teammate
- Chris Lunow Jr – 2029 – Freshman that will get a chance to throw during the back half of the week. Excited to see what he will do with the opportunity.
Overall Team Strengths
