The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Today’s team: Calera Bulldogs

Classification: 2A-1

2025 Spring Results: 31-5 (State Semifinalist)

2025 Fall Results: 15-9 (2A State Quarterfinalist)

Head Coach: Cody Luman

Head coaching experience: 1st year

Top Newcomers

  • Hoff Weil – JR – INF; Left handed bat the can get on base and drive runners in. Adds to our depth on the infield by being able to play 2B, SS or 3B. Good instinct on the bases.

Overall Team Strengths

Pitching, Depth, Defense, Experience. Returning 8 starters from Spring 2A-I Semifinals appearance. Majority have been starters for 3 years (6 seasons). 5 arms that give us a good chance to win on any day.

Overall Team Needs to Work On

Consistency at the plate & resiliency. If we can figure out how to extend innings and put pressure on the defense even when things aren’t going our way we will have a chance to win a lot of ballgames.

Outlook

Looking to get back to the State Tournament and be playing well at the right time of the year. We have an older group of guys that have played at a high level the past couple of years and ready to take the next step of success. Senior heavy team that has one more shot at a championship.
