The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Today’s team: Edmond Memorial Bulldogs

Classification: 6A

2025 Spring Results: 25-10 (State Quarterfinalist)

Head Coach: JP Holman

Head coaching experience: 13 years (7 at Memorial)

Top Returners

  • Cooper Kardokus – 2026 – IF/RHP – Nebraska Signee – 4-year starter at 3B. Kardokus has been in the middle of the lineup his entire career, and that won’t change in 2026. He has a chance to change the scoreboard any time he comes to the plate. Defensively, he’s anyone else’s shortstop, but the Bulldogs get to play him at 3rd. He’s as humble as he is talented, and it wouldn’t shock anyone if he gets drafted.
  • Jase Winchester – 2026 – IF/RHP – Barton Signee – 4 year starter at shortstop. Winchester has been one of the most underrated players in the area for a while. He makes plays defensively that few others can make, and quietly stole over 40 bases last year. At the plate, he’s gotten stronger, and we should see a boost in his power numbers this year. If needed, he can get on the mound, and command an low-mid 90s fastball, and a hard breaking slider. He loves to compete, and is the emotional leader for the Bulldogs.
  • Laird WIlliams – 2026 -RHP – Tulane Signee – Williams will once again be a key member of the Bulldogs pitching staff. The 6’8″ righty works in the upper 80s – low 90s with a downhill fastball that will tunnel with a changeup in the upper 70’s – low 80’s. Williams has pitched high-leverage innings the last two years, and will be called upon to carry the load again this year.
  • Cole Dunlap – 2027 – RHP/UTL – TCU Commit – Dunlap has electric stuff, with a fastball in the low-mid 90’s and a wipeout slider. He’s a legit ace, and gives the Bulldogs a chance to win any game in which he throws. Dunlap is also a plus defensive catcher, with pop at the plate if the need arises.
  • Cooper Wilson – 2026 – RHP – Barton Signee – WIlson has been a solid contributor on the pitching staff since his sophomore year, and will only see his role increase as a senior. At 6’3″ 205, Wilson is a physical presence on the mound. He’s got a good mix of a firm fastball in the upper 80’s-90, with the ability to command his slider and change up. The Bulldogs feel good about giving Wilson the ball against any team on the schedule.
  • Beau Bayouth – 2026 – OF/RHP – Cloud CC Signee – Bayouth is a lean and long-levered, but strong. His fastball rides in the upper 80s-90 with late life, and he combines that with breaking stuff that sinks and slides. Defensively, he covers a ton of ground in the outfield, with a good feel for the game. He handles the bat well at the plate, which gives the Bulldogs options.
  • Koen Isaacson – 2027 – IF/OF – Uncommitted – Isaacson is a left-handed hitting athlete that can play all over the field. He’s got a tight swing with some middle of the order pop. Isaacson will be expected to be a major run producer for the Bulldogs in 2026. He runs the bases well, and is a solid defender in the infield as well as outfield. Played every day as a sophomore, and had a great offseason.
  • Landon Schmidt – 2027 – OF – Uncommitted – Schmidt is a solid-to-plus outfielder with plenty of pop at the plate. His short, compact swing, and good bat-to-ball skills makes him a tough out. He’s an underrated base runner, with a good feel for the game. Has been in the varsity lineup since early in his freshman year, and expects to have a breakout 2026.
  • Tyler Robinson – 2026 – OF – Cowley Signee – One of the fastest players in the region, with sneaky pop at the plate. Robinson has been in the lineup since the middle of his sophomore year. Robinson has all the ability to be a gamechanger for the Bulldogs.
  • Jameson Gottsch – 2027 – 1B/OF – Uncommitted – Gottsch was primed for a strong 2025 until an injury derailed his season. Gottsch has tremendous upside at the plate, with good bat to ball abilities. If he plays close to his ceiling, he can be a real difference maker.
  • Weston Zerr – 2028 – C – Uncommitted – Solid defensive catcher that handles the pitching staff well. Started all high-leverage games last year as a freshman, and he’s only improved behind and at the plate. The Bulldogs are counting on Zerr to carry the load behind the dish.
  • Creed Kardokus – 2028 – IF – Uncommitted – Kardokus got some run last year as a freshman, mostly in substitute roles. Expect his contributions to increase this year, as he worked tirelessly to improve his game. He’s a solid defender at multiple infield positions, and has retooled his offensive approach to do more damage at the plate.

Top Newcomers

  • Carter Steelman – 2028 – 1B/RHP – Uncommitted – Steelman is a strong, but athletic left hand hitting first basemen. He has the ability to get the barrel to pitches all over the zone. He has some natural lift in his swing, which projects to possible impressive power numbers. As he continues to get comfortable, his ceiling will continue to rise.
  • Keagen Marshall – 2026 – RHP/UTL – NOC Enid Signee – Marshall is a big, physical high-upside arm. His arm slot allows for sink and slide. He’s in the mix to get big innings for the Dogs in 2026.

Overall Team Strengths

The Bulldogs won’t be running too many guys out there that have no varsity experience. The majority of the expected contributors have had multiple years in the starting lineup, so the experience and depth are things that Memorial is counting on showing up.

Overall Team Needs to Work On

The Bulldogs understand that every day is an opportunity to get better for the next day. Routinely stacking good reps, and good days leads to success at the end of the season. The last two years, the Edmond Bulldogs are a combined 52-16 in March and April, but 3-3 in the month of May.

Outlook

We understand the expectations that people outside our organization have of us. The rankings, and the writeups are welcomed, and appreciated yet largely out of our control. The players and coaches in our clubhouse are continually reminding ourselves to be laser-focused on the things that we can control, and that on-field success is a byproduct of that the work. We feel that if we stay healthy and focused, then we like our chances to make some noise. We have a fantastic group of players in our organization, and we feel confident going into the season. We play a very tough schedule that should challenge our guys, expose our weaknesses, and demonstrate our strengths. We will have a lot of fun, and see if we can put it all together by the time we need to.
