The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Pioneer-Pleasant Vale Mustangs
Classification: A-2
2025 Spring Results: 32-5 (State Semifinalist)
Head Coach: David Riesen
Head coaching experience: 26 (all at Pioneer)

Top Newcomers
- (Soph) Easton Bell– LHP/1B- Easton will provide a big bat and will be a top pitcher for us this spring
- (Soph) Wade Daniel– C/P/INF- Wade has the chance to become an outstanding catcher and will provide a good bat in the lineup.
Overall Team Strengths
Pitching should be a big strength for our club. We return 29 wins on the mound from last season. Our staff will also be bolstered by the return of LHP Cole Finch to the rotation after recovering from a torn labrum. We also add two talented pitchers in Easton Bell and Wade Daniel.
Overall Team Needs to Work On
We look to improve on our hitting. We should be a much better hitting team and produce more runs this spring then we did last year.
Outlook
We return return 7 starters from our Class A-II state semifinalist team last spring as well as our top 6 pitchers from a team that had a team ERA of 1.79. We are looking to improve on both our pitching and our defense. If we can do so we have a chance to have an outstanding season.
