The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Oologah Mustangs
Classification: 4A
2025 Spring Results: 19-15
Head Coach: Layle Devilbiss
Head coaching experience: 4 years (3 at Oologah)
Top Returners
- Landon Roach Committed to Southern Nazarene University; Landon will be a district starter on the mound as well as starting catcher when he is not pitching. He will be one of our top hitters
- Maddux DeVilbiss committed to Friends University; Maddux will be our center fielder has great speed. He will also pitch for us, he will be in the top of the order looking for him to be a threat on the bases.
- Carson Robertson will our 4 hole guy and play 1st base. He has power at the plate and a great glove at 1st. Carson will also see some time on the mound.
- Uriah Hooks 3 year starter. He will be a relief guy on the mound and a solid INF he will be our utility guy who will move around the infield depending on who is pitching. He is an experienced guy at the plate as well.
- Jett Griswold He is a lefty with good movement and control on the mound. He will also be in the top of the line up with a good stick from the left side of the plate.
Top Newcomers
- Wyatt Dennis freshman who could possible see some time on the mound.
- Channing Parker freshman who could see some time as the DH
Overall Team Strengths
Senior heavy team with lots of experience. Most of the seniors have been starting since they were sophomores.
Overall Team Needs to Work On
We will need to be solid on defense. We don’t have an overpowering pitcher so we will need to play clean.
Outlook
Looking to be a contender for wining our district and a regional.
