The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Today’s team: Verden Tigers

Classification: A-1

2025 Spring Results: 22-12

2025 Fall Results: 10-14

Head Coach: Dan Edwards

Head coaching experience: 9 years (2 at Verden)

Top Returners

  • Easton Edwards- Big part of our offensive lineup and will be our primary catcher as well as one of our top arms.
  • Maris Tointigh- Took a big step for us offensively in the Fall. We will continue to lean on him for offensive production. He will contribute innings on the mound for us as well as playing the middle infield.
  • Avery Wolf- Avery has had a really good off-season. We are looking for him to produce offensively and he is a very versatile defender and our best base runner.

Top Newcomers

  • Matt Miller- Sophomore that will hopefully contribute greatly to our offense. He will play an outfield position as he continues to develop his infield defense. He is also a good baserunner.
  • Karter Keeton- Another sophomore that will help us out behind the plate and is a good offensive weapon. Has very quick hands and with more experience will hopefully make more consistent hard contact.

Overall Team Strengths

Should be able to play solid defense as we are pretty athletic in many positions. We also have a roster that has some flexibility with being able to use different guys.

Overall Team Needs to Work On

Mostly, we just need experience. Our roster only has one senior on it and is heavy with sophomores.

Outlook

I’m excited about this group. We have added some things to our off-season that I think will be beneficial to our team. If we get everybody healthy and focused I think we have a chance to make some noise. It will largely depend on how our pitching staff comes together. We really need to fill up the strike zone, play solid defense, and limit free base runners.
