The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Today’s team: Chandler Lions

Classification: 3A

2025 Spring Results: 20-11 (Area runner up)

Head Coach: Geoff Metheny

Head coaching experience: 13 years (all at Chandler)

Top Returners

  • Bryson Taylor, Sr.- Pos: RHP/SS: 2025 stats: Pitcher- IP 52, Record 6-2, Ks 81, ERA 2.92; Bryson will be a district starter on the mound and one of our top bats in the lineup.
  • Maddox Metheny, Sr.- Pos: LHP/1B: 2025 Stats: Pitcher- IP 42, Record 4-1, Ks 44, ERA 3.73/ Offense: BA .316, 5 doubles, 2 triples, 14 RBI, 24 stolen bases. Maddox will be a district starter on the mound and one of our top bats in the lineup.
  • Sawyer Sims, So: Pos C/RHP: Sawyer had a solid season as a freshman catcher. I look for Sawyer to have a breakout year in his sophomore year.

Top Newcomers

  • Garrett Garner, Fr: Garrett has a good baseball background and has played a lot growing up. I look for Garrett to see some significant playing time as a freshmen this year.

Overall Team Strengths

Pitching, defense and speed. I think we have enough top end arms to compete for one of the top 2 spots in the district. I think our baserunning and team speed will allow us to put pressure on the defense and create offensive opportunities.

Overall Team Needs to Work On

We need some guys to step up in the lineup and emerge as a consistent go-to hitters in key situations.

Outlook

We will work on fundamental skills and continue to get better as the season goes. We have the ability to compete within our district and that will build confidence over the course of the season. We need to continue to develop depth and keep our top pitchers healthy for an end of season run.
