The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Sulphur Bulldogs
Classification: 4A
2025 Spring Results: 20-15
Head Coach: Denton Miller
Head coaching experience: 1st year
Top Returners
- Carter Cole (Sophomore) LHP/OF Carter not only passes the eye test but has the work ethic to match. He is already mid to upper eighties on the pump and bats at the top of the lineup with a great approach. Look for his recruitment to take off very soon!
- Michael Morris (Sophomore) RHP/IF Michael has great skill that every coach loves to have. He can play multiple positions at a high level. He will also hit in the middle of the line up.
- Drake Wood (Junior) RHP/Utility Drake plays great speed that allows him to cover a lot of ground in the OF but also has great hands and a skill as lot of experience in the IF.
- Jax Jackson (Junior) Catcher/IF Jax has started at catcher since he was a Freshman and continues to improve each year. We are looking forward to see his growth this year.
- Traber Sartors (Junior) LHP/OF We are excited for Traber this year to pitch some important innings and be a huge asset for this team.
Top Newcomers
- Kale Brakefield (Senior) RHP/Utility Kale has great velocity on the mound and true power at the plate. But his best attribute he brings in is experience and great leadership. I wouldn’t be surprised to see his recruitment heat up this year!
- Jackson Haggard (Sophomore) C/OF has a great frame with lots of potential.
Overall Team Strengths
The best thing about our team is the senior leadership. We have a plethora of experienced multisport athletes with tremendous work ethic combining that with our young talent will be great for our program.
Overall Team Needs to Work On
Our team has a lot of talent that needs to show up in big moments. We are working to compete and find a way to win in the crunch time / big games / under pressure. Mental toughness and practicing these situations everyday with intent has been a focus this offseason.
Outlook
In my first year as head coach I am blessed to have a bunch of senior leaders that do things the right way. We also return a lot of experienced and add some young talent. I am excited to get the whole squad together and get to work!
