The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Jones Longhorns
Classification: 3A
2025 Spring Results: 21-14 (State quarterfinalist)
Head Coach: Jared Price
Head coaching experience: 1st year
Top Returners
- 2026 Luke Debusk – Uncommitted; Luke will be a big bat for us in the middle of the lineup that we will look to drive in a good amount of our runs. Luke is a 4-year starter and one of our captains that we will lean on for veteran leadership and experience. Luke is a 3-sport athlete and a competitor that wants to win. Look for Luke to have a big season this year
- 2026 Jose Rojas – Uncommitted; Jose will probably be our best and most consistent arm on the mound this year and will be one of our district starters. When he is not pitching you can more than likely find Jose at shortstop. Jose has a really good glove and is continuing to improve his presence at the plate. Jose’s experience is something we will lean heavily on
- 2026 Jack Mendoza – Uncommitted; Jack is an elite offensive linemen for our football team but we will look to him to drive in some runs for us this season as well. Jack has some pop in the bat and has had lots of high level experience both in football and baseball.
- 2027 Jett Rogers – Uncommitted; Jett will be our leadoff hitter for most of the season and will take on a lot of innings on the mound as well as various spots in the infield. Jett has a pretty good amount of experience as a varsity player and will be somebody we will rely on to lead our ball club. I think Jett is going to shock some people this year
- 2027 Nash Pinto – Uncommitted; Nash will be a middle of the lineup guy and will play in the infield and take on a good amount of innings for us on the mound as well. Nash has gotten better every day since I’ve been at Jones and I think will continue to do so.
Top Newcomers
- 2029 Ace Guthery – Uncommitted; Ace is going to end up being a really good player for us and I think he will find himself in some big games this year for us. Ace is a competitor and is getting better every single day. Ace loves to play ball and plays his tail off every day. Look for Ace to open some eyes this year
Overall Team Strengths
We will lean heavily on our veteran leadership and experience this year. You can’t mimic high level competition unless you’ve been in it and a lot of our guys have been in the fire quite a bit
Overall Team Needs to Work On
I just think we need to continue to improve every day and compete on a daily basis
Outlook
I think the sky is the limit for this ball club. They got a small taste of the state tournament last year and we have every intention to be back and hopefully make a run at the whole thing
