The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Coleman Wildcats
Classification: B
2025 Spring Results: 15-13
2025 Fall Results: 18-14
Head Coach: Jacob Hamilton
Head coaching experience: 8 years (6 at Coleman)
Top Returners
- Kase Smith – Senior leader both on and off the field, Smith sets the tone at the top of the lineup. He led the team this fall with 22 stolen bases and 36 runs scored, creating constant pressure on opposing defenses.
- Noah Blue – A senior outfielder with elite range, Blue consistently tracks down balls in the gaps. He anchors the middle of the lineup and led the team this fall with 24 RBIs.
- Easton Bayles – Senior right fielder with a strong arm who has been a four-year starter in the outfield. A relentless worker, Bayles is committed to continual improvement and has dedicated the entire offseason to getting stronger and sharpening his overall game.
- Silas Walters – A junior standout on the mound, Walters has already surpassed 300 career strikeouts and is poised for another dominant season. He’s also a force offensively, hitting .420 this past fall out of the three hole.
- Madden Sawyer – Junior INF/OF who led the team in batting average this fall at .429 while driving in 20 runs. Sawyer is a true two-way threat and will also be one of the team’s top arms.
- Holden Hamilton – A sophomore starting first baseman who hits and throws left-handed. Hamilton is one of the team’s top hitters and pitchers. Despite his youth, he’s already logged multiple high-pressure outings as both a freshman and sophomore.
Top Newcomers
- Kole Smith – Sophomore outfielder and pitcher who made significant strides from his freshman to sophomore fall season. Kole is a dependable defender in the outfield and can step into nearly any infield position when needed. He’s emerged as the team’s top relief arm, logging key innings in high-pressure situations this fall.
- Trey Nix – Freshman catcher and pitcher with a very live arm, already touching the low-80s. Trey took over catching duties midway through the fall season and immediately provided a spark behind the plate. He will also contribute on the mound this spring.
- Dane Tamez – Freshman second baseman who started every game during the fall season. Slotted in the nine hole, Dane excels at turning the lineup over. He brings speed, can bunt or swing away, and has an advanced understanding of the game well beyond his years.
- Ian Ruelle – Freshman DH/third baseman who will be a key middle-of-the-order bat. Ruelle brings legitimate power, finishing the fall with 21 RBIs and 16 runs scored. Pressure situations don’t faze him—he embraces them and consistently rises to the moment.
Overall Team Strengths
Pitching and defense set the foundation for this team, with all players returning and a young, talented pitching staff poised to take another step forward.
Overall Team Needs to Work On
Our biggest areas of growth will be offensive production and confidence.
Outlook
We’re looking to build off a strong run this past fall, with expectations of competing in a regional tournament and giving ourselves a chance to earn a spot in the state tournament.
