The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Overall Team Strengths
We are returning all but one player from last year’s roster and starting lineup, and we’ve added a couple of pieces that directly address our weaknesses from last year. This season, we are a more complete team that gels well and understands the standard set at the start of last year’s campaign. Our team is young, but they compete and want to compete at a high level. Offensively, I believe we can hit with anyone.
Overall Team Needs to Work On
We need to finish — finish at-bats, innings, and games. We have to come ready and stay locked in on every pitch, avoiding complacency at all costs. Last year, too many small and mental mistakes led to big innings and unearned runs. This season, minimizing damage and responding to individual adversity will be critical to our success. The experiences and results from last year have made that clear, and this group is embracing accountability as a point of emphasis.
Outlook
I truly believe we have the right guys and the right clubhouse to do what it takes to reach our goals. If they continue to trust the process and stay away from a results-oriented mindset, I think we will stay on course. By building on last year and focusing on the little things, I believe we’ll continue to surprise people during the regular season and turn some heads in the postseason.
