The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

• Riley Axtell– Freshman Pitcher/Utility player, skilled athlete that will make an instant impact for the program. He has worked his way into the starting line-up this offseason.
• Daniel Hoyt – Junior catcher defensively will make a major impact.
• Tylor Mason – Freshman C/UTL will help the team in the infield and behind the plate.
• Ruben Torres Gonzalez – Junior P/OF will help us on the mound

Overall Team Strengths

Defensively sound, play as a team program. We pride ourselves on moving runners, and doing anything necessary to score runners in scoring position.

Overall Team Needs to Work On

Experience, we have 2 seniors this year, with the majority of our team being Freshman-Juniors. Being in winning situations and getting the job done. Last year vs multiple district opponents we were either winning our down 1 going into the 6th or 7th inning and didn’t get the job done. Only losing 3 starters this year we should be more experienced in those situations.

Outlook

Young competitive group with returning experience from last year. Excited for the future is an understatement with this group of young men. They grind everyday with morning workouts and practices in the afternoon. They are hungry to change the narrative on West baseball and us coaches see it every single day.
