The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Edmond North Huskies
Classification: 6A
2025 Results: 16-23 (State Quarterfinalist)
Head Coach: Matt Allen
Head coaching experience: 3 years (all at Edmond North)
Top Returners
- Avery Lonberg (2026) OF/P. A strong bat and everyday outfielder will most likely throw some in closing/relief situations.
- Paxton McClain (2026) LHP/OF. Looking for him to be one of our top arms and start in the outfield.
- Brogan Griggs (2026) P/IN. One of our top arms, and will be our everyday 3rd baseman maybe play some first base.
- Kolby Grinsteiner (2026) C. Looking for him to bring a lot offensively, projecting to be a middle of the order hitter.
- Jarrett Stiles (2026) 2B Great baserunner, everyday second baseman with the ability to be a big part of the offense.
- Cole Ackerman (2027) OF- Strong defensive outfielder. Expecting him to be a big piece of the offense, both hitting and baserunning wise.
- Parker Allen (2028) SS- Returning everyday shortstop, expecting him to be a big part of offense/defense.
Top Newcomers
- Cade Minchew (2027) Utility/RHP-can play almost anywhere on the field, looking for him to contribute a lot of innings on the mound.
- Owen Murrell (2027) OF/RHP- Solid arm that projects to throw a lot of innings, and could compete for a OF/DH spot in the lineup.
Overall Team Strengths
We are very experienced offensively and defensively. Most of the guys in the lineup will have had varsity at bats coming into the season.
Overall Team Needs to Work On
We do have some pitching depth, but lack velocity like we have had in the past. We will need guys to compete in the zone, and control the run game.
Outlook
This 2026 team looks like we will be ready to compete against anyone. Experience seems to make a huge difference, and we have a lot coming into the season. Pitching looks to be the key on how high our ceiling will be.
