The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Today’s team: Southmoore Sabercats

Classification: 6A

2025 Results: 20-17

Head Coach: Hunter Aguirre

Head coaching experience: 3 years (all at Southmoore)

Top Returners

  • Landin Shippers (12th) – USAO Commit – Landin will be a district arm for us and play short stop when not on the bump. He is a leader in the locker room and on the field. The type of player any coach would want to have. He has worked tremendously hard since my first day here and year after year I have seen him get better and better. Looking forward to watching his senior campaign this spring! He is great role model for his teammates to look up to and they are able to know what it means to be a Southmoore Baseball Player.
  • Brody Pierce (11th) – Uncommitted – Brody will look to step up in some new roles this spring after having a great sophomore year on the mound for us last year. He will be an everyday “two-way” guy at the varsity level and be the other district arm for us along with Shippers. Brody has found another gear this year in his preparation and it has been fun watching him get after it every day. He is a great young man with a passion for baseball, and a terrific teammate.
  • Ethan Parrish (10th) – Uncommitted – Ethan is looking to make a statement as a sophomore this spring. Last year he ended up catching some of the most meaningful innings of the season as a freshman and it was great experience for him so early in his high school career. He is one of the hardest workers I have ever seen. On the field, in the cages, and in the weight room, this guy gets after it. He is the standard for what we want Southmoore Baseball to be.

Top Newcomers

  • Ian Farmer (12th) – Uncommitted – Ian battled injuries both as a Sophomore and Junior and it has been nice seeing him complete a full offseason healthy. He has burst on to the scene in the outfield for us flashing some serious leather. On the mound he provides a good three pitch mix and will be a staple in the pitching staff this spring whether that be in relief appearances or some starts.
  • Shane Fordenbacher (10th) – Uncommitted – Shane has been a player in our program we have been excited to see make their varsity appearance. He was able to travel with the varsity some last year and made a few appearances to earn his varsity letter as a freshman. He is a terrific outfielder and arm on the mound for us. We are hopeful that he can get some crucial experience in the regular season on the mound to get him ready for us to make a run in a regional. He loves baseball and that is evident with how he prepares every day.

Overall Team Strengths

We have a true “team” this year. Our guys enjoy spending time together both during practice and away from the field. We have leaders who have goals with what they want this season to be and hold others accountable to that standard every day. We have experience on the mound and our leaders have experienced some of the best competition in the state. That has been vital in molding some of our more “green” varsity players this year.

Overall Team Needs to Work On

We need more experience. We have a lot of players who will be making their first major impact at the varsity level this spring. There will be lessons learned and adversity along the way this spring, but how this team responds will be the true test.

Outlook

We hope that we are competitive in every game this spring and that we can be sponges as a team with the experiences we have leading into postseason play. If this team can handle adversity and learn from the mistakes that come I truly believe this group can make some noise in postseason play.
