The MLB Trade Deadline has passed for this season and 2025 saw several players with ties to the Sooner State on the move.
Let’s take a look at each one.
Juaron Watts-Brown, Blue Jays > Orioles
The Oklahoma State alum was the first one this week from the Sooner State to get the news he was on the move. The Blue Jays traded him to Baltimore for reliever Seranthony Dominguez. Toronto got some bullpen help for the stretch run and Baltimore gets another RHP prospect. Watts-Brown is now listed as the Orioles #9 overall prospect.
Ryan Helsley, Cardinals > Mets
Helsley has been the Cardinals closer the last few seasons and he was named the NL Reliever of the Year in 2024. However, this season hasn’t been as good for the Tahlequah native. With Helsley in a free agent year and the Cardinals in a mini rebuild, it made sense for Helsley to be on the move.
In New York, Helsley’s role will be a little different as it looks like he’ll be in more of a set up role, but he could be leaned on to close if needed.
Twine Palmer, Astros > Orioles
The Kiowa and Connors State alum was traded to Baltimore as the Astros were one of the most aggressive teams at the deadline. The Astros got Ramon Urias in return to add to their infield depth.
Palmer is not in the Orioles top 30 prospect rankings (yet), but that is not surprising as he was drafted in the final rounds of 2024. However, with the season that Palmer is having, it is easy to see why the Astros had to give him up for an established big leaguer.
Roc Riggio, Yankees > Rockies
The Cowboys alum went from the most stoired club in baseball history to the worst club currently in baseball.
Riggio is in the middle of a great season down on the farm as he had been promoted to AA and was the Yankees #10 overall prospect. Riggio is now the Rockies’ #11 prospect and the top 2B prospect in their organization.
Who knows? Maybe this will mean a quicker path to the bigs for Riggio?
Ramon Laureano, Orioles > Padres
The Orioles were sellers this year and with Laureano enjoying a resurgence this season, it was a no brainer for the NEO alum to be on the move.
Being moved along with Ryan O’Hearn to the Padres, the Orioles got a total of six minor league prospect in return from the Padres.
Adrian Houser, White Sox > Rays
The Locust Grove alum has had an interesting season. Starting out at (AAA) Round Rock (TEX), Houser was released after pitching 39 innings. He was signed by the White Sox and immediately placed in their starting rotation. After going 4-1 with an ERA of 2.44 in 11 starts, the White Sox were able to trade him to Tampa Bay for a major leauge shortstop and 2 minor league prospects.
Zach Ehrhard, Red Sox > Dodgers
The Oklahoma State alum was traded at the deadline in a deal that saw Dustin May head to Boston. The 2024 MLB draftee slides into the Dodgers top 30 prospects at #25. He’s also headed back to the Sooner State as he has been assigned to the (AA) Tulsa Drillers.
