The Summer break is almost over and schools in Oklahoma will begin the 2025-2026 school soon. That also means that it is almost time for the 2025 High School Fall season to start.

The season officially opens on Monday, August 11 (or sooner if both schools are already in session). For the next few weeks, we will be previewing several teams as they look forward to the season.

Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the head coaches of the schools playing baseball this Fall. We asked about their returning players, top players, strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment of where their teams are and could be.

Today’s team: Wright City Lumberjax

Classification: A

Fall 2024 Results: 34-2 (Class A State Champions)

Spring 2025 Results: 30-3 (Class A-1 State Champions)

Head Coach: Kyle Butler

Head coaching experience: 17th year (14th at Wright City)

Top Returning Players

  • Kayden Cummings, SR (INF/P): .350 AVG, 20 RBI
  • Jaxon Hill, SR (OF): .360 AVG
  • Brody Guest, SR (C/P): .350, 32 RBI
  • Jaxson Miller, SOPH (SS/P)
  • Jordan Crosby, SOPH (OF)

Top Newcomers

  • Kaleb Crosby, SR: Returns with limited experience, but has been part of championships teams. Knows the expectations and has chance to play 3B and pitch
  • Jaylon Hill, SOPH: Utility player that has multiple tools. Can make a difference at every position on the field
  • Pitchers: Blaze Ward, Terence Holt, Kyson Battiest

Outlook

You could make the case that Wright City had the best 2024-2025 school year of any team in the state and one of the best in state history. The Lumberjax went a combined 64-5 in the Fall and Spring seasons winning the state titles in both seasons.

Because of that, expectations are even higher in Wright City and head coach, Kyle Butler, understands that. “The expectation/standard doesn’t change,” Butler said. “We expect to get back to the state tournament and compete every day at a high level.”

The reality is the Jax will have to find a way to replace what they lost. While they do return 5 starters from those championship teams, they did lose their top 4 arms and a ton of their run production. The players who were considered “role” players in the past will have to provide the leadership now while the the “new guys develop and get some game experience,” as Coach Butler says.

Butler expects the Jax to look a little different this year as they will have to manufacture runs on offense – bunting, good base running, and timely hitting will be the key.

Wright City is now seeing great numbers the last few years. Combine that with the success on the field, don’t be surprised to see the Lumberjax back in the state tournament this fall competing for another state championship.
