When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best high school team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR Dominant Dozen.
We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.
For example, are we saying that teams at the lower classes are better than say the top 6A teams? Maybe, maybe not. Most of the top upper teams have more depth than the lower class teams and they would most likely win a series with them. But relative to their level, those lower class teams may be having a better season than the upper class teams.
It is not an exact science, but when we do the rankings we look at a number of factors. Win/loss record. How is that team doing against their own class? How did they do versus teams in classifications higher than theirs? District play for 3A-6A teams. Head to head.
Using those factors we rank the teams based on how they are doing relative to their level.
As a reminder, our first two Dominant Dozen champs were Tuttle (4A) in 2023 and Oktaha (2A) in 2024.
*The Rankings this year have expanded to 16, thus the “Sweet Sixteen.”
This is for fun, so please treat it as such.
Let’s take a look at the Week 4 rankings.

The Top 8
The top 3 remain the same this week as Newcastle (4A, 14-1), Owasso (6A, 17-1), and Dewar (A-1, 19-0) all went undefeated. The Racers went 5-0 including 3-0 at the Chickasha Festival. The Rams also went 5-0 outscoring their opponents (Sapulpa 2x, Deer Creek, Edmond Santa Fe, and Carl Albert) a combined 48-0. Dewar (A-1, 19-0) went 5-0 outscoring their opponents a combined 52-3.
Blanchard (4A, 14-1) and Elgin (5A, 13-1) both moved up a spot to #4 and #5 respectively this week after Edmond Memorial (6A, 12-2) lost. Both the Lions and Owls went 5-0 with both teams beating Ft Cobb-Broxton and going 3-0 in the Chickasha Festival.
Elk City (4A, 12-0) moves up 2 spots to #6 after a perfect week with wins over Bethany, Joens, Calumet, and Okarche.
Choctaw (6A, 11-2) is the biggest mover this week as they move up 8 spots to #7 after a perfect week including winning the Choctaw Tournament. The Yellowjackets beat Noble (10-2) Edmond Memorial (12-4), and Life Prep (10-0) to win their tournament.
The aforementioned, Edmond Memorial comes in at #8 after losing that game to Choctaw. The Bulldogs’ 2 losses this season have been by scores of 16-8 and 12-4. Memorial stays in the top 8 due to their 7-5 win over then SSBR #10 Bixby in the 3rd place game at Choctaw.
The 2nd 8
Tuttle (4A, 14-2) stays at #9 this week after going 5-0. They slot a spot behind Memorial due to their loss to the Bulldogs earlier this season.
Moving up 1 spot each to #10, #11, and #12 respectively are Calera (2A-1, 10-1), Wright City (A-1, 12-2), and Rattan (A-2, 9-1). The Bulldogs won the Caney Tournament beating Asher, 3-0, and Caddo, 9-0. Wright City and Rattan both went undefeated in the Rattan Spring Classic although rain kept us from seeing a potential Lumberjax/Rams matchup (they are scheduled for a game at Rattan on April 8).
Bixby (6A, 12-4) falls three spots to #13 this week after losing to Choctaw and Edmond Memorial.
Mount St Mary (4A, 12-4) slides down to #14 this week after losing to Heritage Hall in the finals of the Charger Invitational.
Collinsville (5A, 13-2) moves up to #15 this week after a perfect 5-0 week.
Making their debut in the Sweet 16 is Canute (A-2, 10-1). The Trojans have been knocking on the door this season and make it this week after winning a tough AmPo Tournament. Canute beat the host school in the semis and previously unbeaten Ripley in the finals. They’ve won 3 games vs 4A competition and they are Navajo’s only loss and blanked Vici (who is 12-3), 17-0.
