There’s certainly no shortage of tournaments going on across the state this weekend, but none feature as many premier matchups as the BA/Jenks Festival. A true battle of Tulsa area schools versus OKC area schools, four schools from each side of the state will face off this weekend. Representing the west side of the state are Westmoore, Carl Albert, Edmond Santa Fe, and Deer Creek. From the east side, we have the two hosts, Jenks and Broken Arrow, as well as Owasso and Union. Each team will play three games against teams from the opposing side of the state, and although not a true “tournament”, we’ll be keeping score for each side of the state this weekend.

Team Breakdowns

East Side

Jenks

The Trojans are one of two schools hosting the festival and will be looking to defend their home turf this weekend against some tough competition. The Trojans haven’t gotten off to as great a start as we’ve grown accustomed to, sitting at only 8-9 on the season with a tough 2-4 start to district play. However, the Trojans still have the talent to beat anybody and proved as much when they beat an exceptional Bixby squad 6-0 earlier this season. The Trojans have matched up with Westmoore, Deer Creek, and Edmond Santa Fe this weekend, and will look to turn their season around with a couple of statement wins.

Owasso

Owasso entered the season as the favorite, at least in our eyes, to reclaim their throne at the top of 6A with a state championship this season, and so far they’ve looked the part. The Rams have jumped out to a 13-4 record coming into this weekend, only tripping up once in district play against Stillwater, putting them atop the standings in their district. The Rams have dates with Westmoore, Carl Albert, and Edmond Santa Fe this weekend, and with wins on Thursday and Friday would become the first team in 6A to reach the 15-win mark.

Broken Arrow

The other hosts of the festival, Broken Arrow will look to pick up a couple of statement wins this weekend. The Tigers have been a bit hot and cold to start the year but sit at a more than respectable 10-5 record to this point, with an even 3-3 record in district play after splitting their series with 6A newcomers Bishop Kelley earlier this week. Broken Arrow is only a week removed from a six-game win streak, and they’ll be looking to start another streak this week with wins over Deer Creek, Edmond Santa Fe, and Carl Albert.

Union

The Redhawks had a tall task ahead of them this season replacing a loaded class of seniors from the 2023 class, but there’s still plenty of talent on the roster in 2024. An 8-7 start leaves a bit to be desired compared to the standard we’ve come to expect from Union over the years but at second place in the district standings, everything is still on the table for them as the season moves forward. The Redhawks will have a chance to set the tone for a strong back half of the season with matchups against Deer Creek, Westmoore, and Carl Albert this weekend.

West Side

Westmoore

Taking a rough weekend at the DFW Five Tool Festival to open the year, the Jaguars sit at a strong 10-2 record since their return to Oklahoma. A 6-0 record in district play has them in a three-way tie atop their district standings alongside Edmond Memorial and Choctaw, setting up two extremely important series’ over the last two weeks of the season, as those two schools represent the Jaguars’ final two district opponents of the season. Westmoore will look to add a few marquee wins to their resume this weekend with games against Jenks, Owasso, and Union.

Deer Creek

The Antlers season has become somewhat of a direct opposite of Westmoore’s this year. Deer Creek began the year with a very strong showing in DFW, dropping a 1-0 game to begin the year against nationally ranked Prosper, before picking up impressive wins over Lovejoy and Allen to wrap up the festival. However, as they returned to Oklahoma, things took a downward turn, leading the Antlers to a tough 6-8 record to this point. There’s plenty of time to turn things around, especially for a group with as much talent as they have, and a good showing this weekend would be a perfect place to start. Deer Creek has matchups with Union, Broken Arrow, and Jenks this weekend.

Edmond Santa Fe

Few teams got out to as hot a start in 2024 as the Wolves. A three-game stretch during the first week of the season that saw them take an 8-run win on the road at Mustang before sweeping their district opener versus Deer Creek put Santa Fe at the forefront of 6A in a hurry. The Wolves have cooled off since, but still feature some of the most talented players in the state, and have the talent to make a run at a state tournament come the end of the year. They’ll take on Broken Arrow, Owasso, and Jenks this weekend.

Carl Albert

Perrenial 5A powerhouse Carl Albert entered the year with high expectations as always, and as per usual has lived up to the billing. The Titans have rattled off 10 wins to begin the year, with the only blemish to their otherwise perfect start being a 9-2 loss to an Elgin team that has found themselves at the top of our “Dominant Dozen” two weeks in a row. The Titans have a chance to add three big-time wins to their resume this weekend with games against Owasso, Union, and Broken Arrow.
