I’ve said it before, but it is hard to believe this is the last week of the fall regular season. Sure there are some games scheduled next week and the following week, but at the end of both of those weeks is postseason play with Districts to be played by September 23 and Regional by September 30.

That means this weekend is the last of the regular season tournaments and man, is there a good one in Rattan.

There are 6 teams in this event and 4 of the teams are in the OSSAA Rankings top 4 in their respective Class A:

  • Wister Wildcats #2 in A
  • Rattan Rams #3 in A
  • Tupelo Tigers #3 in B
  • Wright City #4 in A

The format of this event is different than what we’ve seen so far this season. It is split up into 2 pools of 3 teams. Rattan, Tupelo, and Boswell will play round robin against each other while Wister, Wright City, and Battiest will take the field on Friday.

The winners of each pool will play for the championship on Saturday, while the 2nd team in each pool will play for 3rd, and the remaining 2 teams will play a consolation game.

Breakdown

  • Most of these teams have already played each other this season.
  • The schedule is set up to where what should be the 2 best teams in each pool play each other last.
  • Tupelo vs Boswell on 8/11/23 won11-3
  • Rattan vs Boswell on 8/28 won 14-0
  • Rattan vs Tupelo on 9/11 won 5-1
  • Rattan has won 10 of their last 11
  • Tupelo has lost 4 straight albeit to highly ranked teams (Silo (A #5), Red Oak, (A #20, Rattan (A #3), and Tushka (A #8).
  • Wister beat Battiest on 8/28 13-1
  • Wright City has not played Wister nor Battiest
  • Wright City has won 11 of their last 13 with their 2 losses to Rattan (7-3), and Dale (6-5)
  • Wister’s 3 losses have come to Oktaha twice (9-1, 4-1) and Silo (4-2)

It is hard to imagine Rattan not winning their pool and being in championship on Saturday.

It isn’t as clear cut in the Friday pool. You could make an argument that Wright City is as much a contender for the Class A title as any team with the way they are playing right now. They lost a close one to Dale last week, but rebounded to run rule Silo in the Rebel’s own tournament (Silo went on to give Oktaha’s first loss on the season on Monday).

Regardless which team does come out of the Friday pool, the championship game on Saturday should be a great game.
